Why Custom Prints Cost What They Do
Every custom print is made to order and priced individually. Your quote is based on the actual work required to turn a digital model into a finished collectible, not simply the amount of plastic used.
As a one person studio, I personally review, prepare, print, finish, paint, inspect, and pack every order. That hands on process is what makes each Fantasy Prints piece unique.
What Your Quote Includes
-
Model review and print preparation: I check the model, confirm its scale, choose the best orientation, plan supports, and prepare it for a reliable print.
-
Licensed design use: I only sell designs for which I have appropriate commercial permission. Any applicable creator license costs are included in the quote where required.
-
Materials and printing: This includes quality filament, color changes and purge material when needed, supports, machine operation, maintenance, and electricity.
-
Finishing: Depending on the option chosen, this can include support removal, deburring, sanding, seam filling, priming, assembly, and quality inspection.
-
Painting: Painted pieces are priced for the time, materials, detail level, number of colors, and finishing required. Hand painting makes every piece unique.
-
Packaging: Each completed item is inspected and packed to help it arrive safely.
Why Prices Vary
Two models that are the same height can require very different amounts of work. The largest factors are print duration, amount of support material, number of parts and seams, surface detail, model complexity, color changes, and the selected finish level.
A raw print is the most economical option. A cleaned, primed, assembled, or hand-painted collectible requires more hands on work and will be quoted accordingly.
Model Rights & Commercial Printing
A file being available to download, share, or print for personal use does not automatically mean it can be printed and sold. Many creators allow hobby printing only, while others offer a commercial license separately.
Before sending a customer-supplied STL, please check the file’s original listing or creator page for its license or usage terms. Look for clear wording such as “commercial use permitted,” “commercial license included,” or “merchant license.” If the listing says “personal use only,” “non-commercial,” or does not clearly give commercial permission, I cannot produce it for resale.

A Quick Checklist for Customer-Supplied Files
-
Find the model’s original creator or marketplace listing—not only a repost, download mirror, or social-media image.
-
Read the license/usage terms on that listing.
-
Confirm that the license permits physical commercial sales, not merely personal printing or commercial use of the digital file.
-
Keep a copy of the creator’s permission, order receipt, or license page if one is available.
-
Send me the original listing link and the license details with your request.
I will do my own review before accepting a job, but the customer remains responsible for confirming that they have the rights or permission to request a commercial print of a customer-supplied file. I may decline a request if the rights are unclear, restricted, or cannot be verified.
Important: Fantasy Prints cannot provide legal advice or determine ownership of a character, logo, or design. When in doubt, please contact the original creator or rights holder for written permission before ordering.
Custom Order Process
-
Send your request: Tell me the character or subject, desired size, finish level, color references, and any deadline. If you have an STL, include the original listing link and commercial-use information.
-
I review it: I confirm that the requested model can be produced and sold, assess the file or design, and prepare a no-obligation quote with an estimated lead time.
-
Approve your quote: For custom work, a 50% non-refundable deposit secures your order and covers design preparation, materials, and production scheduling.
-
Production: I prepare, print, clean, finish, and if selected hand-paint your item.
-
Final approval and shipment: I send completion photos when appropriate. The remaining balance plus shipping is due before dispatch.
Important Notes
-
Quotes and deposits: Quotes are in Canadian dollars and are valid for 14 days unless otherwise stated. A deposit is non-refundable once file preparation, material ordering, printing, or finishing has started because those costs and time are committed to your project.
-
Shipping and taxes: Shipping, applicable taxes, and optional add-ons are shown separately at checkout or in the final invoice. I package items carefully, but once a parcel has been accepted by the carrier, delivery timing and carrier handling are outside my control.
-
Lead times: Lead times are estimates, not guaranteed delivery dates. Complex prints, paint curing, replacements, high order volume, material availability, and carrier delays can affect completion or delivery dates.
-
Handmade variation: Hand-finished and hand-painted products can have small variations in paint, finish, seam placement, and surface texture. These are normal characteristics of a handmade piece, not defects.
-
Reference images: Reference images help guide color and style, but screen colors, lighting, and artistic interpretation can vary. I will confirm major color/style decisions before production when needed.
-
Changes after approval: Please review your quote, size, finish level, and references carefully before approving. Changes requested after printing or painting begins may require a revised quote, additional lead time, or a new order.
-
Customer-supplied files: Customer-supplied files must be printable and properly licensed. I may recommend changes such as resizing, splitting, supports, or additional assembly for printability. I cannot guarantee that every supplied file can be printed successfully.
